The Good Life Expo: 40+ Vendors; Flu Clinic

The JWU Good Life Expo presented by Performance Food Group of Springfield, Mass., is taking place on Wednesday, September 25, from 11am – 2pm in the Wildcat Center Gym on our Harborside Campus. All Wildcats are welcome to attend.

The expo actively engages the JWU community in an experience that promotes holistic well-being. Learn about a variety of health and wellness resources available on and off campus. Some of the 40+ vendors attending include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Capitol Chiropractic, Massages!, Providence Community Acupuncture, RI Waves – Bike Newport, Sojourner House, and URI Feinstein Center for Hunger-Free America. Also, come enjoy the many food samples ranging from burgers to pasta to veggie tots and seasonal fruit.

Flu Clinic: JWU will again host the annual flu clinic to give faculty and staff the opportunity to receive the seasonal flu vaccine. The first clinic is being held at the Good Life Expo (additional clinics will be announced at a later date). All JWU employees are eligible to participate in the flu clinic and, as in the past, JWU will cover the cost of the vaccine. (Only the injected version of the vaccine will be available. )

Volunteers: A program like this requires assistance from the entire community. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up by September 20.

JWU's Competency Model Gets a Face-Lift

As part of JWU’s regular review of the competency model, some minor updates to the model’s verbiage and visual components were made to make it more relevant and consistent with JWU’s graphic and editorial standards, to infuse the JWU brand and to give it a fresher look and feel.

Got a Faculty Bio Edit?

Faculty are frequently updating their certifications, titles, and professional credentials. To be sure your JWU faculty bio is current, please review it throughout the year. If you have any revisions or additions, contact it@jwu.edu with “Faculty Bio” in the subject line. Include the specific URL in need of updating and the information that is changing (no need to include the entire bio).

QPR Training for Faculty and Staff

QPR (Question, Persuade and Refer) is a suicide prevention-training program sponsored by Student Affairs, the CARE Team and Counseling Services. More than 98% of attendees stated that they would recommend QPR training to others. The fall session will take place on Wednesday, October 2, from 4-5:30pm, Downcity Campus (John Hazen White, room 402).

Participants will learn critical skills to intervene with students in distress. Those who have completed the training in the past are always welcome for a refresher. Space is limited. Please sign up by contacting Jean Russell LICSW, clinical counselor and training coordinator.
