College of Arts & Sciences – Noteworthy

Kevin DeJesus, PhD, assistant professor in the John Hazen White College of Arts & Sciences, was recognized as a “Leader As Host” by Mike Ritz, executive director of Leadership Rhode Island, during a recent visit to his class. Ritz also spoke with his students about qualities that make a good leader and opportunities available for them through College Leadership Rhode Island. Matt Samel, PhD, CHE, FMP, professor in the College of Hospitality Management, reveled with a stellar academic year. The May/June issue of Club Management magazine, the official publication of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), profiled him (see page 15: Lessons Learned).

As a faculty advisor to the JWU CMAA Student Chapter, he was proud to see them recognized at the 91st World Conference on Club Management in San Francisco (see page 11: Student chapter award winners).

Sixth Annual JWU Athletics Golf Classic

Join JWU Athletics at this year’s annual Golf Classic on Mon, Aug 13, at Metacomet Country Club, Veterans Memorial Parkway, in East Providence, RI. Registration opens at 8 am, and a shotgun start at 9 am. Lunch and awards are scheduled for 2pm.

Participation helps to ensure that Athletics will continue to be a robust part of the student experience on the Providence Campus.
