JWU Launches ESPORTS Team

Since its resurrection of varsity athletics in the mid 90’s, JWU has continued to increase opportunities for student-athlete participation. The Wildcats are furthering that expansion with the addition of ESPORTS, a competition using video games.

Associate Dean of Students and Executive Director of Athletics Mel Graf has announced the addition of ESPORTS as a club team starting in fall 2019. The university is working to convert a current space into an ESPORTS arena, featuring state-of-the-art gaming systems, chairs, and graphics, while also hiring its first team coach. Recruiting for the team will begin as soon as the coach is hired.

JWU is the first school in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference to add ESPORTS as a competitive club and one of the first in the New England region. The goal is to recruit 20-30 new student-athletes for the inaugural team. The Wildcats will begin play in such games as League of Legends, Overwatch and Rocket League.
