For the second year in a row, the men’s wrestling team will take the stage at the Providence Performing Arts Center for the Downtown Showdown. This year's event will take place on Saturday, December 15, at 6pm. The Wildcats will host NCAA Division II powerhouse Wheeling Jesuit University Cardinals. The Cardinals finished 13th at nationals last year and return with a pair of All-Americans, including national champion Terrance Fanning at 285 pounds. Go Wildcats!
For nine months, Sergeant Richard Moore was on active duty; seven of those months in Niger, Africa. During his deployment, he wore his “safety training hat,” something that he wears often at Johnson & Wales in his role as environmental health & safety specialist in Facilities Management, and trained the Forces Armed Niger (FAN), or the Nigerian Air Force, in chemical safety.
“The reason I was given the opportunity was because I’m the Unit Safety Representative (USR) for my squadron,” he says. “Several squadrons fall under a Group. Our Group’s safety manager recognized my civilian experience. He invited me to help him train as part of a week-long program that he was presenting to the FAN.” Read more; see photos.
The combined power of JWU (an internationally recognized food authority), Rhode Island School of Design (an internationally recognized design authority) and Farm Fresh RI (a venerable local food hub) is changing the way college students eat.
JWU, RISD and Farm Fresh RI will share a 2018 New England Food Vision Prize, a $250,000 award from the Henry P. Kendall Foundation, to encourage colleges and universities to increase the amount of regionally produced food on campus menus.
The award will support a two-year collaboration to research and develop food products that will be tested and integrated into the dining services at each campus with subsequent plans for distribution through Farm Fresh RI. Read full story.
