Wrestling Goes Big With 2018-19 Schedule

Under head coach Lonnie Morris, the JWU men’s wrestling team has never backed down from a challenge. The Wildcats released their 2018-19 schedule and are shooting for the stars.

For the second year in a row, the Wildcats will take the stage at the Providence Performing Arts Center for the Downtown Showdown. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, December 15, at 6pm. JWU will host the NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit University Cardinals. Wheeling Jesuit finished 13th at nationals last year.

Johnson & Wales will serve as the host for this year’s NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, February 23-24—the first time since 2004. The top three finishers in each weight class qualify for the NCAA Championships, March 8-9, in Roanoke, Virginia.

On November 2, Johnson & Wales will face NCAA Division I opponents Rutgers, Fresno State and Centenary. The featured match will be at 125 pounds where JWU national champion Jay Albis takes on national runner-up Nick Suriano from Rutgers.

JWU rings in the New Year with a trip to the NWCA National Duals, January 4-5, in Louisville, Kentucky. On February 8, the Wildcats renew their rivalry with Roger Williams University on the RWU campus.
