Milestones

Passings

JWU would like to extend heartfelt condolences to those JWU colleagues who have recently lost loved ones.

Marcia Araujo, mother of KerryAnn Moreira of Student Financial Services, passed away on July 9. Marcia is a former employee of Johnson & Wales. She was a cashier at Market Place from 2005 until she retired in 2017.

KerryAnn shares a story about her mother and her love of JWU: “I was very happy when I found a large box full of letters in her computer room. Even though she retired in 2017, she would still receive cards and letters, from all over the world, from former students. They would send pictures of places that they thought she would enjoy seeing or give her an update on their lives - quite a few wedding or engagement pictures. She loved it! We realized from the dates that she has received at least one postcard a month (usually more) since she retired. The most recent received was postmarked on June 28. It was really heartwarming to see all of the mail she received and to know that she touched the lives of so many of our students in such a wonderful way that they still sent her mail and greetings.” Read full obituary.

David Allinson, nephew of KerryAnn and Marcia’s oldest grandson, also passed away earlier that same week on July 6.
