Sustainability Week

This month, the JWU Energy Conservation Office (ECO) will be sponsoring their annual Sustainability Week packed with activities for faculty, staff and students, including the Surplus Store Sale on April 12 and the 5th annual Sustainability Resource Fair on April 17. This is just one of the many efforts JWU ECO has made to help educate the JWU community about how to be more environmentally conscious. Check out these events:

Thursday, April 11 - $5 Fill Up, 11am-3pm
Student Advocates Supporting Sustainability (SASS) will be hosting a pop-up thrift shop with donated clothes/other donated items on Gaebe Commons.

Friday, April 12 – Surplus Store Sale, noon-4pm
Throughout last year, ECO and Facilities Management have been working to identify storage locations on campus where items were forgotten or abandoned and to clean out those areas to better utilize campus space. Many of the items are no longer of use on campus, but still hold value. JWU Providence’s first-ever Surplus Store is located in the archives warehouse on the second floor of The Friedman Center, Harborside Campus. Items for sale include computer monitors, electronics, small kitchenware, industrial kitchen equipment, office furniture, desk chairs, etc. This is a first come, first serve sale. Items will not be held in advance of the sale. Credit cards will be the only form of payment accepted.

Tuesday, April 16 - Green Collaborative BBQ Fundraiser, 4:30-7pm
JWU’s Green Collaborative is hosting a BBQ fundraiser and cooking demonstration to help raise awareness for the new raised beds to be built by the houses next to Harbor View. Location: 1146 Narragansett Boulevard, Providence, RI 02905

Wednesday, April 17 – Sustainability Resource Fair, 11am-3pm
About 20 vendors will be participating in the 5th annual Sustainability Resource Fair on the Harborside Campus Green Space including Revive the Roots, Impact Everything and a lot of on-campus student groups. Rain location: Delaney Gym

Monday, April 22 - Tree Planting, 10am
A tree will be planted in Harborside Village in honor of Earth Day. The location and tree is chosen by Facilities Management.

Friday, April 26 – Yoga by the Water, 10:30am-noon
SASS will be hosting a free yoga class featuring music by an acoustic guitar player at the Harborside water front.
