Volleyball’s Maria Coniglio ’20 Earns RI Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Award

This season, JWU women's volleyball student-athlete Maria Coniglio ’20 has excelled on the court, in the classroom, and the community. This made her a natural selection for the Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Distinguished Student-Athlete award.

The Old Bethpage, NY native was one of nine student-athletes recognized by the Rhode Island AIAW at the ceremony held at the University of Rhode Island this month. Founded in 1971, the AIAW was one of the biggest organizations that championed women's athletics in the 1970's and 80's. Rhode Island is one of the few states with an active AIAW Association.

During her junior season, Coniglio earned First-Team AVCA All-America honors as well as CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-America honors. She is just the second student-athlete in school history to earn both awards. Named GNAC Tournament MVP, Coniglio is the fourth player in school history to earn a trio of First-Team All-GNAC honors. She has a 3.98 GPA in Culinary Nutrition.
