JWU Athletics has announced Jessica Salisbury as the new head women’s ice hockey coach. After serving as an assistant coach for two seasons, Salisbury will take over the women's hockey program for the 2019-20 academic year.
"I am honored to have been chosen as the next women's ice hockey coach at Johnson & Wales,” she said. “I am very excited to begin working with our student-athletes and the JWU athletic family."
Prior to joining the Wildcats as an assistant, Salisbury was a four-year member of the UMASS Boston women’s ice hockey team. She was a key defenseman for the Beacons and concluded her career with a goal and eight assists in 78 contests. Salisbury helped the Beacons to a trio of semifinals appearances in the ECAC Women’s East playoffs.
“We are excited for Jess to transition into this role and begin implementation of her extensive plan to recruit student-athletes of character to continue to build upon the strong foundation of this program,” said Director of Athletics Dana Garfield. “She is committed to the development of this team, both academically and competitively, and to the overall growth of this program.”
Additionally, Salisbury has served as an evaluator for the USA Hockey Yankee Conference and currently holds a Level 3 USA Hockey Coach certification. Jess is a native of North Smithfield, RI, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies from UMASS Boston in 2015.
