This summer, JWU’s Namaste Nepal student organization recognized the Guru Purnima festival here on the Providence Campus. Guru Purnima is the festival dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. In Hindu and Buddhist culture, teachers are considered to be Gods who came to this earth in the form of a human. Individuals take this day to pay respect to their teachers and express gratitude for their guidance.
There are number of ways to celebrate this festival but typically, students put a tika on their teachers' forehead, give sweets and gifts, and receive blessings from teachers in return. JWU’s student organization recognized Guru Purnima by distributing thank-you notes and incense to all full-time faculty.
