Cheers to the first graduates of JWU's Professional Craft Brewing Certificate program. On Friday, August 17, they celebrated the culmination of their studies by sharing their final brew projects for Associate Professor Jennifer Pereira's Applied American Craft Brewing course.
During the summer session, they participated in the 11-week course that combined classroom and online education. The course enhanced their knowledge of brewing theory, practical brewing, recipe formulation, sensory analysis, marketing, and brewery design. Each with a solid career, the students have taken their interest in beer into a new realm. With their creations are:
- Norman Todd, sergeant, Rehoboth Police Department: Next Chapter Ale, British Bitter
- Scott Garvey, commercial fisherman: Ahab's Revenge, Hop Forward IPA
- Michael Ruggiero, retired Cranston English teacher: Old Man and the Ale, American Cream Ale
- William Pearson, head of payroll, State of RI: (his Alt Bier placed first in the British Practical Brewing course)
