JWU Athletics was recognized at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators convention. The Wildcats won first place in the Fan Engagement Video Group III division. This is the first time Johnson & Wales has been recognized by the national organization. Group III consists of all NCAA Division II and III schools as well as NAIA and NJCAA programs. Nominations were due in mid-March with the three finalists announced in May.
JWU’s submission was one in a series of videos produced to promote the wrestling team’s Downtown Showdown at the historic Providence Performing Arts Center. Directed, shot and edited by Michael Smoose, associate athletics director, and Galina Gruder, sports information student assistant, the video featured members of the wrestling team “auditioning” for the meet.
Video has played a big role in JWU Athletics’ increased social media presence. In the last year, Johnson & Wales has seen a 13 % increase on its Facebook and Instagram accounts, as well as a seven percent bump on Twitter.
