Ron Martel, PhD, vice president of student affairs and dean of students, announced on June 28 a number of promotions and appointments in JWU Athletics.
Associate Dean of Students Mel Graf, who also previously served as executive director of athletics, will return to that dual role to lead the department. She replaces Jamie Marcoux, the former director of athletics on the Providence Campus who left to assume a position with Assumption College in early June.
After a 19-year run as head coach of the JWU baseball team, John LaRose was promoted to associate athletics director. He will be responsible for compliance, academics and staff training with sport oversight. LaRose finished his coaching career with a 429-341-6 record.
Also promoted to associate athletics director is Michael Smoose, formerly the sports information director. Smoose will continue to run the day-to-day athletic communications operations while also overseeing game management, campus recreation, club sports and intermural programs with sport oversight.
