  • Christine Ure, associate professor in the College of Business, was recognized by the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless as with the Educator of Change Award. Both GoLocalProv and Providence Business News covered this achievement. She will be recognized at the Coalition's 30th Anniversary Awards Breakfast, which will take place on October 1 at the Crowne Plaza Providence-Warwick.

  • "What do colleges-universities really teach hotel students today?" was the topic of a recent presentation by Debbie Howarth, EdDrvrfdyutabxxqescu, professor in the College of Hospitality Management, delivered to the New England Inns & Resorts Association via a webinar. She spoked about both JWU’s on-ground and online programs. Watch the presentation.

  • Deana Marzocchi, associate professor and department chair in the College of Engineering & Design, is quoted in the most recent edition of DesignxRI magazine. The article is titled "Today's Revolution and the Design Workforce that Follows." She discusses the growing demand for a designer's ability to succeed in constantly changing environments while still delivering a single solution. 

Campus Announcements

Revised Employee Reimbursement Form
Effective October 1, 2018, the per-diem rates for meals will change. Please reference a recent memo from Joseph Greene, treasurer and chief financial officer, for more details and to access the revised form.

Guidance to Comply with Federal Rules and Regulations
As a tax-exempt institution, JWU must comply with all relevant local, state and federal laws, regulations, standards and policies. Read more in a recent memo from Lisa Pelosi, vice president of communications and government relations, or visit JWU Gateway.

Alarm and Sprinkler Testing
Facilities Management will be conducting fire alarm and sprinkler testing throughout the Harborside and Downcity campuses from Monday, September 17, through Friday, September 28. These tests will occur sporadically and throughout all of our buildings, including residence halls. The fire alarm will set off short beeps. The sprinklers will not discharge and no alarms will sound. For questions, please call Andre Vafiadis, building services administrator, on his cell phone at 401-741-3287.

A JWU student team from the College of Engineering & Design participated in HealthHacksRI at URI, September 22-23. The team, “JWU Lab Crew,” designed, prototyped, and pitched a smart joint flex sensor used to increase conformance with post-treatment physical therapy plans. The JWU Lab Crew placed third, winning $250. Congratulations to Dennis Collins, Patrick Wynn, Nicholas Leighton, and Cameron Shimer!
