An Argument for the Imperfect

When choosing ingredients, perfection should never be the enemy of good. We’ve all done it. You're in the produce section of the grocery store and you squeeze every avocado, looking for that perfect ripeness, unaware of the damage this causes to the fruit. In the dairy section, you inspect each gallon of milk for a magic date. The irony is that sell-by or expiration dates are assigned by the producer and have little to do with quality. The reality is that in our search for perfection, we are adding to the nation's growing food waste problem. Read more.

The Boston Bruins, TD Garden and Johnson & Wales University will announce on October 10 a multi-year partnership naming JWU as the Official Education Partner of the Boston Bruins and TD Garden.

This multifaceted partnership includes experiential education opportunities for current JWU students and offers a tuition benefit to Delaware North’s global workforce, TD Garden and the Boston Bruins. Read more.

Scott Lyons Accepts Dean of Students Position at Denver Campus
In a memo on October 3, Denver Campus President Richard Wiscott, Ph.D., announced the appointment of Scott Lyons, Ed.D., as dean of students at JWU Denver. Lyons worked at JWU Providence for 13 years, most recently serving as director of student involvement & leadership.

Fire Alarm Testing Postponed
Sprinkler testing has been completed; however, fire alarm testing throughout the Harborside and Downcity campuses has been postponed to Monday, October 15, through Friday, October 26. These tests will occur sporadically and throughout all of our buildings, including residence halls. The fire alarm will set off short beeps.
