In May, Cynthia R. Bigelow, president and chief executive officer, Bigelow Tea Company, became JWU's first Visiting Industry Professional and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Business Administration at the Graduate Studies Commencement. Bruce Newbury, food writer and radio personality, interviewed her for his Food Dude podcast. Take a listen – her portion begins at 13:43 minutes into the recording.

"We’re doing a course correction," Diane McCrohan, associate professor in the College of Business, said during an interview with WPRI12 Consumer Investigator Susan Campbell about the closing of Dress Barn and the retail outlook for 2019. "In the '90s, we expanded like crazy and we have too much retail square footage." Watch now.

It's not too late to plan a summer getaway. College of Hospitality Management Professor Katie Davin has advice on landing the best hotel deal and cautions on expensive amenities and resort fees. In an interview with the Sarasota Herald-TribuneAmy Wagenfeld, associate professor of occupational therapy, said housing that is not properly designed can cause preventable disabilities and unnecessarily force seniors to live at lower levels of physical movement and independence. Read more.

A group of JWU College of Hospitality Management students got a big surprise recently. The American Hotel and Lodging Educational Foundation (AHLEF) awarded a total of $49,500 in scholarships for the 2019-2020 academic year. Read about it in Lodging Magazine.

jwuGOLD Application Period Closed and Thank You
The jwuGOLD committee received an overwhelming response from JWU faculty and staff who applied to mentor first-year commuter students in the new jwuGOLD program – thank you! The application period is now closed. If additional mentors are needed, an announcement will be posted in This Week at JWU. Fire Extinguisher Inspections
Consistent with NFPA regulatory requirements, Facilities Management, along with Prescott Peirce Co., will be performing annual fire extinguisher inspections on the Harborside and Downcity campuses now through August 30. Alarm and Sprinkler Testing
Facilities Management will be conducting fire alarm and sprinkler testing throughout the Harborside and Downcity campuses from Monday, June 6, through Tuesday, June 18. These tests will occur sporadically and throughout all of our buildings, including residence halls. The fire alarms will set off short beeps. The sprinklers will not discharge, and no alarms will sound. We apologize in advance for the disruption.
